Sea Level Rise in the Classroom Curriculum
The curriculum is divided into 4 modules: Sea-Level Rise
and Flooding Basics, Natural Solutions, Ordinance and Policy Solutions, and Community Planning Solutions. Within each module are lessons that meet state standards for the five Gulf States.

When Did It Happen Timeline Game
Participants will use past pop culture events from the past 30 years to guess what sea level rise will be in their community for the next 30 years.

Marsh Migration
Participants explore how changing sea levels could impact local marsh plants and animals by observing elevations of the environments.

Sea Level Rise Friendship Bracelets
Participants will learn about sea level rise and create a friendship bracelet to show how much sea levels are rising.

Heat Mapping
With the increase of temperatures in urban areas, participants will learn the importance of natural surfaces vs man-made.

Precipitation Relays
The northern Gulf coast experiences some of the highest rainfall amounts annually. Participants will partake in a relay race activity to help visualize how much rain can fall over typical timeframes and during extreme events.

Enviroscape Stormwater Management Activity
Participants learn the importance of a marsh and develop their own ways to manage or guide water in a community.

Living Shoreline Boxes
Participants compare erosion from waves and storms on four different shoreline types.

Water Cycle Dice Game
Participants will better understand how scientists measure changes in the water cycle associated with climate change.

Community Balance Tumbling Tower
A tumbling tower game in which each removed block represents a negative impact on the community caused by sea-level rise, extreme heat, and other environmental stressors. Positive actions that support community resilience allow players to add blocks back, demonstrating how proactive efforts can help strengthen and restore their community.

Hurricane Houses
Participants will learn how hurricanes form and what we can do as a community to be resilient when building.

Enviroscape Development Activity
Participants learn how development influences water movement throughout a community.
