It’s that time of year again! We’re teaming up with the National Park Service for monthly cleanups on our beautiful barrier islands, and we need your help!

During these hands-on events, volunteers will spend 4-5 hours collecting and documenting trash along a designated section of the shoreline. You can meet us at the cleanup site or hop on a chartered shuttle for a scenic ride to and from the location!

Shuttle Locations:
Petit Bois cleanups – Shuttle from Pascagoula Point Boat Launch

All other cleanups – Shuttle from Point Cadet Marina

If you choose to meet us at the site, we’ll send you the exact coordinates before the event.

With your help, we aim to clean all 68 miles of barrier island shoreline in just three years! Choose a date and location that works for you, and sign up today using our registration form.

Mississippi Coastal Cleanup’s sub-chapter started 2024,

the Barrier Island Cleanup Initiative!

Funded in partnership with the U.S. National Park Service, MSCCP will host volunteer-based cleanups on the Gulf Islands National Seashore barrier islands. Volunteers will have opportunities to help us remove marine debris in the Mississippi Sound on Ship, Cat, Horn, and Petit Bois barrier islands.

So far volunteers have removed over 7,000 pounds of trash from the barrier islands since October 2023!

Are you willing to brave the Mississippi Sound to help our team? Volunteers can stay up-to date on this new initiative by following the Coastal Conservation and Restoration Lab and the MSCCP Facebook pages. Registration will be required to participate, and space will be limited. But no worries, there will be lots of opportunities for you to attend!

Goals of this initiative

What?

The goal of this new initiative is to remove marine debris along all 68 miles of the barrier island chain shorelines over the course of 3 years.

When?

The cleanup season began in the spring of 2024 and occurs monthly until October each year.

Where?

Volunteers will have opportunities to help us remove marine debris in the Mississippi Sound on Ship, Cat, Horn, and Petit Bois barrier islands.

How?

Volunteers will
be shuttled to the cleanup location on charter for-hire boats to spend 4-5 hours with
our team before enjoying a cool ride back.
