To examine the rates of depredation on reef fish released using descender devices across the Gulf of Mexico, we have partnered with charter fishing captains from all five Gulf states to record video footage of fish descents. If the data from this study indicate that depredation rarely occurs on fishes released using descender devices, it is our hope that anglers will voluntarily embrace the use of these devices, thereby increasing the sustainability of their fishing practices.
