Spatial and Temporal Variability of Microplastics in Mississippi Bayous

About the Project
Microplastic samples are taken from Bayou Chico and Bayou Heron over the span of four seasons. These samples, consisting of water and sediment, are taken from the same upstream and downstream coordinates from both bayous. The samples are stored, processed, analyzed, and recorded.
The analyzed microplastics are measured in ImageJ and are categorized by color and shape. The data collected in this project will be added to a global microplastic database that will allow us to better understand microplastic pollution and issues that result from it.
