About the Program
Through this multi-year project the team is removing large marine debris items from coastal and marine habitats in the Gulf of America, specifically derelict and abandoned vessels. Activities include the active removal of many tons of marine debris, assessment of the environmental impacts pre and post removal, and increased awareness of marine debris impacts.

What we do
Over the next four years, Our team is working with the Gulf of America Alliance and state agency partners to remove derelict vessels and large marine debris from coastal habitats in states across the Gulf of America thanks to funding from the NOAA Marine Debris Program. Our team uses drones to assess derelict vessels and the surrounding marine habitats. We then work with local contractors to coordinate removals with minimal negative impacts.

Negative Impacts of Derelict vessels

Damage marsh habitats and submerged aquatic vegetation

Release pollutants into our waterways

Threaten the safety of boaters
