Help Shape New Gulf Coast Education Resources for Classrooms Across the Gulf States
We’re looking for 10 public and private middle school teachers (Grades 5–8) from across the Gulf Coast to help develop and test new classroom lessons through the Gulf of America Alliance Education Products Professional Development Initiative.
This collaborative project will bring together two educators from each Gulf state—Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida—to create high-quality, classroom-ready lessons aligned with the Gulf Literacy Principles and the Waters to the Sea: Gulf Adventure educational resources.
We’re looking for
- 2 teachers from each Gulf State
- Public or private school educators
- Teachers of Grades 5th through 8th
- Educators interested in environmental education, STEM, marine science, or place-based learning
What You’ll Do
As a member of the Teacher Implementation Team, you will:
- Collaborate with fellow Gulf Coast educators and the project team.
- Participate in virtual focus groups during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters to help shape the Canvas Professional Development modules.
- Develop a new lesson or adapt an existing lesson using the Gulf Literacy Principles and Waters to the Sea Gulf Adventure resources during the Fall 2026 semester.
- Align lessons with your state’s academic standards.
- Implement the lesson in your classroom and provide feedback to improve the final products during the Spring 2027 semester.

Teacher Stipend
Teachers who complete all project requirements will receive up to $2,000 for:
- Participating in focus groups
- Developing or adapting a lesson
- Classroom implementation
- Completing project evaluations and feedback
Timeline

Teacher Implementation Team Start Date: September 14th, 2026
Participants will attend monthly virtual check-ins with the project team while developing and implementing their lessons.
The completed lessons will become part of a Canvas Professional Development Course that will be available to educators in Summer 2027.
