Registration for the 2026 FISHES course IS NOW OPEN!

The FISHES program, supported by Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium and Mississippi State University, is designed to extend practical, science-based information about fisheries management, fisheries science, and sustainability to fish enthusiasts in a user-friendly format. This course consists of 20 hours of instruction: five 2-hour online, asynchronous classroom sessions, 5 hours of required reading from the textbook written to accompany the course, and one 5-hour field excursion. The course is open to anyone ages 18 and up, and the registration fee is $150*. Completion of this course qualifies each participant to receive CEU credits through the Mississippi State University Extension Service Center for Continuing Education.

*Scholarships may be available for those unable to pay the registration fee. For more information, please contact the program coordinator.

About the Marine Fisheries Ecology Program

We are focused on providing science-based solutions to common issues affecting commercial and recreational fishermen in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Our research objectives are to better understand the abundance and distribution, life history (age and growth, maturity), movements and migrations, and feeding ecology of a wide range of important species, including coastal sharks, reef fishes, and coastal pelagics.
