Modernizing disCARD REPORTING
The disCARD project recruits recreational anglers to help test a new approach for improving the accuracy of reef fish discard reporting using a physical paper catch card paired with quick smartphone photo submission.
Working with all five Gulf state agencies and Bluefin Data, the project will develop and evaluate a system that reduces recall bias, improves species identification, and documents release reasons through automated image processing.
project gOALS
We are aiming to determine whether this hybrid reporting method can provide managers with more reliable discard data to support effective reef fish management across the Gulf.
